2001 Ninja 500
Honestly, I love this bike but I'm over 50 and riding it for more than 45 minutes hurts my back and wrists - not because the bike is bad but because getting old sucks, haha.
If you’ve never ridden one, they're small, lightweight (388 lbs), very tossable, 50hp (rear wheel), 30 ft lbs, 0-60 4.
5 seconds (beginners - don’t let that scare you since the real power kicks in over 6000rpm, so it’s really easy to handle around town in the lower rpm ranges).
6 speed, clutch in great shape, heated grips, adjustable levers, 12v outlet (I plug a USB adapter and my phone into it).
Aside from upgraded front disk and pads, turn signals and fiberglass lower fairing it's all original as far as I can tell.
While it's a great bike for a beginner it's fully capable and fast enough to entertain an experienced rider (I bought it as an experienced rider returning to the sport after 15 years).
Plenty comfortable and stable in top gear at 90mph+ (not that I've ever done that, of course.
;)
The Good
- Tires are in great shape and have lots of tread depth
- New Galfer disk and sintered pads up front
- K&N filter
- New chain
- Battery is like new
- Lowered about an inch from stock (can be adjusted) - great for shorter riders or beginners
- Oil + filter changed within last 300 miles
- Starts easy every time
- Runs great, very strong
- Great gas mileage (approx.
60 mpg)
- Plastics don't creak and groan like most bikes this age
- Kept inside but comes with a cover if you want it
- Windscreen clear and like new
The Bad
- Cosmetically, looks pretty good from 10 feet away but has minor scrapes and scratches like any bike of this vintage.
- A previous owner dropped and cracked the upper fairing at low speed, but it's been solidly repaired (virtually every one of these have been dropped at some point because they are popular with new riders).
There is a blemish on the upper fairing from the repair (see pics)
- Some scratches on the exhaust pipe, a little ding on the gas tank, etc.
(tried to show everything in the pics)
- Title says mileage is "exempted" but DMV didn't know why.
Based on the bike's condition, I think the odometer is accurate.
Had no problem at all getting it registered.
This bike has many thousands of miles left in it.
I have a clear title in my name.
I ride it often - it's ready to roll with nothing needed (mileage may increase some).
Prefer cash, but willing to trade for small bore (under 250cc) Japanese (especially 1960s to 1980s vintage) street, dualsport/enduro motorcycles, or vintage scooter in decent, rideable shape.
If you want a test ride, I'll need your motorcycle license and to hold your full cash amount while you ride - No exceptions.
Serious buyers only no joy riders.
