Company: National EMS Position Title: EMT Field Training Officer Department: Operations Location: Conyers, GA For internal applicants: The position requires full time employment of a EMT that has been employed with National for at least six months.
SUMMARY Provides Pre-hospital care staff with the support, information education and training necessary to provide high-quality Pre-hospital and inter-facility care.
Responsible for training, mentoring, and evaluation of new EMS staff during their probationary period.
Oversees and documents all aspects of the training program to ensure that the trainee is prepared to serve as the attendant in charge.
Efficiently communicate solutions for improvement to employees in the remediation process.
Field Training Officers act as a resource to all field and management staff that has clinical, policy, or protocol questions.
Serves as a Shift Captain to provide field-level supervision to assigned zones, area, units, or station.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION · High School Diploma or GED · State of Georgia EMT License Required, 2+ year experience Preferred · Instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support Certification · BLS and CEVO Driving Instructor or equivalent certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire date) · Valid Driver’s License · Prior EMS teaching / mentoring experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITY ·Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
· Knowledge of company medical director approved protocols and standing orders.
· Demonstrated skills in the successful completion of multiple, simultaneous and rapidly emergent tasks.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, National EMS operations and other customer service issues.
· Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems including PCR reporting and MDT applications.
· Demonstrated ability to represent National EMS and other team members as an EMS professional.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS · The employee is regularly required to use hands / arms; and talk / hear.
· The employee frequently is required to stand and walk and occasionally required to sit, climb, stand, or balance.
· The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 150 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds with assistance from others.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment: · Due to the nature of EMS Care working conditions, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, potentially hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, diseases and other illnesses.
· Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult personalities and irregularities in work schedule are expected.
· Employee is subject to continually changing deadlines, while performing the duties of this job.
· The employee will be occasionally required to attend meetings, some of which may take place outside of regular working hours.
· The employee will occasionally go for periods of time without sleep, food, or breaks as determined by call load.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Serves as an educational resource for field employees and management.
2.
Conducts field training, education, and evaluation / remediation for new and current employees, and helps transitional employees to define basic skills and functions.
3.
Provides classroom instruction in a variety of pre-hospital care related topics.
4.
Make recommendations to the Training Administrator to improve various aspects of the training and QA/QI programs, which may include specific study materials, technology, etc.
5.
Demonstrates company goals and standards of excellence through exemplary daily job performance, attitude, and initiative.
6.
Makes recommendations on when the New Employee / Remedial Staff Member has completed the necessary requirement and is ready to staff an on-line unit.
7.
Follows-through on the successful completion of the 30-, 60-, and 90-day evaluations on new employees.
8.
Reinforce and uphold the goals and objectives of the new employee orientation program.
9.
Identify, evaluate and / or remediate individuals who are not meeting and exceeding National EMS performance standards.
10.
Facilitate the smooth transition for new-hire employees as well as continuing employees with expanding and / or changing job responsibilities.
11.
Prepares and completes appropriate reports including Patient Care Reports (PCR), billing, exposure reports, incident reports, daily, and weekly unit check offs.
12.
Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
13.
Ensures that a patient’s needs are met in a professional manner, both clinically and emotionally, which includes treatment from themselves, their partner, first responders and the public.
14.
Serves as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
15.
Drive the ambulance or provide map-reading support to minimize call response time.
16.
Educates healthcare and public safety partners of new and changing information, as necessary.
17.
Mentor employees, conduct performance evaluations, counsel and provide disciplinary actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development for positive results.
18.
Maintains a positive and professional relationship with Communications Personnel to ensure that all calls and transfers are processed promptly, times are documented effectively, and that appropriate follow-up has been made with the crews.
19.
Participates in activities that reflect positively upon National EMS and the profession to include providing coverage for Dedicated Standby events, education to the public, etc.
20.
Provides prompt EMS response to all calls / transports, while providing appropriate care and treatment to patients according to company policy and the Medical Director protocols.
21.
