Job Title: Recreation Coordinator
Department: Parks and Recreation
Hourly Rate: $18.

10 per hour Position Summary: This position is responsible for the operation of out-of- school time programs for youth including, but not limited to, both afterschool and day camp.
Work involves developing, managing, and implementing a comprehensive out-of-school time program plan.
Supervises part-time counselors.
Work is performed under the direction of the OST Supervisor.
The list of duties, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.
The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

· Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and progress of work activities to the Program Supervisor.
· Implements programs to meet budget revenue and expenditure goals.
· Ensure that employees are abiding by established guidelines, policies and procedures.
· Follows all established safety rules, departmental policies, and procedures and carries out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.
· Resolves patron’s concerns, conflicts, and problems, ensuring that services are provided professionally and safely.
· Demonstrates accountability for delivering quality services and work products as a part of the overall department and Citywide strategic direction, goals, and objectives.
· Demonstrates a commitment to provide and require quality programming and meet department and city goals and objectives through cooperative and collaborative team and individual efforts.
· Assesses program quality, and develops recommendations, programs, and procedures to provide the most effective and efficient program design to meet program goals and individual child needs.
· Manages interactions, transitions, and conflicts to promote appropriate behavior guidance, staff and child choices, disciplinary consequences, and parent communication consistent with CYS behavior management guidelines.
· Implements staff training programs and manages staff performance to ensure the highest level of professional performance in childcare, after-school programming, and camp standards.
· Conducts effective quarterly goal-setting process with each direct report with quality, accuracy and professionalism.
· Coach individual employees in improving job-related skills on an ongoing basis, including but not limited to modeling, shadowing, and fostering mentor relationships between experienced and newer staff members.
· Creates and maintains a safe and growth-promoting environment for participants and staff.
· Ensure quality delivery of programs, including offering age-appropriate, innovative, engaging activities incorporating children’s ideas and input.
· Plans, coordinates, and actively facilitates field trips according to division standards.
· Provides teaching, mentoring, and motivation to youth development staff through modeling appropriate behavior and communicating knowledge, skills, and information.
Addresses performance issues promptly.
· Provides onsite management of daily program operations, including staff and child attendance, coordination with school front office, front desk staff, group movement, and activity schedules, and coordination with special activity instructors.
· Oversees and ensures safety is prioritized and procedures are followed.
Effectively carries out emergency procedures at the program location.
· Conducts emergency drills monthly, handles emergencies calmly, and according to department and City of Decatur policies and procedures, takes immediate action to handle crises.
· Incorporates environmental safety into the arrangement of space, the storage of equipment and supplies, and the design and implementation of activities.
· Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and progress of work activities and department and city goals to staff and supervisor.
· Coordinates with host organization partners in schools, recreation centers, field trip venues, pools, and camp facilities to ensure that the expectations of all partners are met while achieving program goals and objectives.
· Demonstrates responsible stewardship of the organization’s resources through cost effective use of program supplies and equipment.
Implements all program elements within budgetary parameters.
· Provides excellent customer service to parents through communication efforts in person, email, and social media, as well as positive, welcoming interactions and pertinent, appropriate communication related to the child’s experience at the program, upcoming events/activities, etc.
· Oversees and maintains all program equipment and supplies to ensure the safe and effective administration of all program activities.
· Works with administration, parent volunteers, site staff, and host to complete and evaluate a self-study, develop a site action plan, and prepare the site for after-school accreditation.
Maintains accreditation standards daily.
· Produces quality work products that meet division standards, including performance evaluations, incident reports, employee relations documentation, lesson plans, flyers, and approved social media postings.
Teamwork/Interpersonal (40%) · Functions as a cooperative, productive, and willing team member when working with other employees on projects, events, and programs.
· Proactively applies their strengths to support team and individual efforts toward accomplishing organizational goals and work-related tasks.
· Develops and maintains positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with partners, other city divisions, and departments as relevant to accomplishing the goals of the City of Decatur and the department.
· Serves as liaison for all site and program-related activities.
· Develops and implements effective recognition plans for part-time staff members.
· Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and human relationship skills in order to build effective working team, team relationships, and relationships with Decatur families.
· Works with other city departments and serves on appropriate inter-departmental teams.
· Assists with staff hiring as assigned.
· Contributes to a superior work culture through participation in leadership development and training, management and technical skills, and provide mentoring to direct reports for professional skill development.
· Responds quickly and accurately to requests for information, concerns, and customer complaints.
Task (10%) · Organizes, maintains, and submits administrative records and reports for personnel and participants, including attendance records, evaluation forms, discipline records, incident/accident reports and worker’s comp reports.
· Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information of children, families, and employees, as well as personnel-related information.
· Represents the division and the site at school and community functions, staff meetings, parent conferences, phone calls, and community time with professionalism.
· Responds to all inquiries and complaints or refers to the appropriate person.
· Effectively manages self through the independent initiation and accomplishment of tasks.
· Administers program surveys to participants.
· Participate in recruitment activities.
· Other duties as assigned.

· Three (3) years of experience in childcare or summer camp or Child Development Associate (CDA): or equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: · Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license (class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
· CPR, First Aid and Prevent Child Abuse certifications or the ability to obtain within six months is required.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: · Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for long periods.
· Can lift and carry heavy objects (10-50 lbs.
) sit, bend, squat, and twist daily; must be able to physically operate city vehicle.
· Have the ability to sit for long periods using office equipment and computers.
· Have the ability to walk and stand outdoors (playgrounds and parks) setting including the pool while in extreme heat and cold for up to 8 hours daily.
· Have a personal vehicle to drive for daily business on a mileage reimbursement basis.
· Must deal with constant interruptions, noise, and meet with others on a regularly.
· The employee may be exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions.
