Job Summary: The Systems Architect’s role is to strategically design and implement customer information systems and networked software architectures that support core Fortna customer solutions and assure their high availability.
This individual will gain organizational commitment for all systems and software plans, as well as evaluate and select all technologies required to complete those plans.
In addition, the Systems Architect provides technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level.
The primary focus of this position is to architect, evolve, test, and implement hardware and software [system level] infrastructure, specifically with Fortna customer Software solutions.
Responsibilities: Strategy & Planning Design and implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining customer systems and software.
Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Documenting the infrastructure architecture environment to create a reference architecture consistent with customer goals to ensure the solutions remain cost effective, efficient, and of high quality.
Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to leadership, implementation engineers, support engineers, and software development teams.
Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.
Acquisition & Deployment Where applicable, design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems.
Document existing customer systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement for compliance with security standards and architectural plans.
Operational Management Creation of Technical Architecture Specifications documentation for all customer implementation projects.
Collaborate with cross functional teams, customers, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development.
Model business and systems processes based on findings through use case scenarios, workflow diagrams, and data models.
Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance.
Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
Develop and manage a systems capacity plan for the lifetime of the customer solution.
Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a policy for standardizing systems and software, as necessary.
Provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (must be able to be ascertained from the resume): 7 years’ work experience in system engineering or similar role.
2 years’ experience working in a systems architecture role.
Extensive experience in developing strategic systems architecture plans, designs and technical infrastructure diagrams.
Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.
Linux RHEL/OEL/CentOS system admin experience.
VMware or other virtualization experience.
Public cloud architecture experience.
Network topology and infrastructure expertise.
Strong understanding of Virtual Private Networking.
Proven experience in systems and network design and development.
Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices.
Solid grounding in core enterprise applications, including Oracle Database systems.
Extensive experience with Observability systems and design of event management process and implementation.
Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration models for application delivery.
Experience using service management tools, including Jira and Service Now.
Strong knowledge of software, hardware and cloud evaluation principles and practices.
Proven project planning and management experience.
Proficient with other open-source operating systems and applications.
Good knowledge of applicable security, data privacy practices and laws.
Education and Experience: College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science/engineering or information systems (master’s degree preferred).
Certifications in TOGAF.
Certifications in Linux/RHEL/OEL/CentOS Certifications in VMware Other Qualifications Desired: Strong customer service orientation.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Supply chain and distribution center experience.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to conduct research into project and portfolio management issues and products as required.
Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and directed.
Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
Physical Requirements: 40-hour hybrid (3 days onsite) work week with on-call availability for 7 days per month.
Sitting for extended periods of time.
When travelling to customer sites, essential requirements of this position may require physical presence in various environments and locations.
Physical stamina may be required for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and/or working in cramped quarters.
Exposure to potentially dangerous tools and equipment amidst a variety of building materials is probable, as is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment can vary from being relatively quiet, to moderate, to excessive.
Safety shoes or boots may be required in certain situations.
Additional safety clothing including gloves, hardhats, and devices to protect eyes, mouth, or hearing, will be worn, as necessary.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
The base salary range for this role is $129,300 to $194,000.
This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position.
Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
Travel Requirements: 20% travel could be required.
