BASIC PURPOSE: Responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s specialized financial trading systems.
These systems handle trade capture, financial instrument valuation, and accounting calculations for the bulk of the financial assets which reside on the Bank’s balance sheet.
These include derivatives, COs, and DNs (Principia), and investments (TPG).
Assist with complex system configurations related to market prices, forward curve calibration and business process automation.
Plays a key leadership role in all Derivative Operations related system projects, upgrades, and application support.
Specializes in utilizing the data in the Enterprise Data Warehouse for analysis and reporting requirements.
Performs testing functions for mission critical projects and participates in identifying business requirements by working closely with management and IT.
Performs structured deal modeling and advanced analyses on the Bank’s derivatives portfolio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Leads others to successfully implement new systems and upgrades.
Assists in defining settings, documents operational processes, tests software, and trains staff members.
Troubleshoots and works on resolutions to system production issues.
Provides high-level financial analyses to research model performance problems.
Responsible for validating performance and output of system upgrades and code changes.
Participates in all major projects involving the system writing specifications, testing code performance, validating system output, and solving technical problems surrounding implementation.
Designs and codes custom reports as needed.
Configures Market Environment settings in the Bank’s derivatives system, Principia.
Ensures the system’s forward curves are set up to appropriately value the Bank’s interest rate swaps, caps, floors, bonds and other instruments in Principia.
Develops automation tools to facilitate trade entry, report processing, and bulk system updates as needed.
Develops tools and maintains processes to monitor and improve data quality related to data contained in Business Ops systems.
Assists IT with evaluation and monitoring of system performance, including monitoring of end of day batch processes.
Helps optimize batch processes to speed processing.
Monitors data quality and serves as a data steward of the Banks financial instrument data stored in the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Helps to detect errors and report problems to IT.
Maintains an expertise in the functionality of the Bank’s trading systems, especially in the system’s Application Programming Interface (API).
Works with the Director of Derivatives and Investment Operations to facilitate and communicate compliance requirements for user support and training, documentation, and communication of updates for the following areas: EUCs; Application Security Reviews; Business Continuity; Manual Operations Exercise and Records Management.
Coordinates with the Accounting Services department on all systems issues related to derivatives accrual and Topic 815 accounting.
Performs additional analyses as necessary to categorize deals for hedge accounting treatment.
Works to ensure the accuracy of general ledger output.
Understands the advances, derivatives, debt and investment operational processes and controls in order to determine appropriate process changes for process improvements with new systems or upgrades.
Works with and understands the following software/systems Principia, TriOptima, AcadiaSoft.
Capable of performing operational functions which include, fulfilling requirements for bond calls and unwinds, swap collateral process, swap payments, reviewing hedge documentation, reviewing counterparty confirmations documenting swap deals, and creating and maintaining reports to the Bank’s Asset/Liability Committee and board of directors.
Subject matter expert to other team members and other departments in resolution of issues.
Performs in the capacity of reviewer of all operational functions.
Ensures the accuracy of the modeling and conducts mark-to-market analyses and generates reports.
Maintains, develops, and supports current system Access Database programs that support operational functions.
Plays a key role in continued maintenance of the many middle and back office system modules.
Ensures Bank derivatives activities are in compliance with internal controls, established Federal Housing Finance Agency, Financial Management Policy, and the Bank’s Risk Management Policy.
Researches and documents applicable regulatory changes.
Plans for and assists with the adaption, testing and implementation of changes.
Ensures written procedures and established client computing standards are current, documented, and accurately reflect departmental business functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Must be a self-starter and able to address problems independently.
Must have strong computing and analytical capabilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Must have a strong understanding and related experience with internal controls and process improvement.
Must have the ability to work on multiple, unrelated areas simultaneously under limited supervision.
Project management skills, such as strong team building skills, and excellent problem solving skills.
Experience in computer programming, including an understanding of object oriented concepts.
Experience in developing reports, including an understanding of Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau and PowerBI.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology, automation, data science, or finance, and eight years’ exposure to trading or financial operations, financial systems, and/or derivatives experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
A master’s degree is preferred.
5 years experience writing SQL queries including Oracle and SQL Server.
WORK LOCATION: Onsite with an opportunity to work remote partially.
This position may not be filled in California, either in-person or remotely.
