Responsibilities: What you'll be challenged to do: TranSystems’ Atlanta, Georgia office has an opportunity for an Engineer 2/3 to join our Roadway Practice.
This Engineer will be a member of our roadway group and will lead and assist in various tasks including project management, plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, MOT, specifications, cost estimates (AASHTOWare) and other related tasks.
Microstation, InRoads / Open Roads, MS Office and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, and surveyors.
This Engineer will also help mentor younger engineers and will be given the opportunity to develop into a project manager.
Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specification with the Georgia Department of Transportation are preferred; and must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Perform engineering tasks related to the planning and design of transportation facilities such as freeways, arterials, intersections, railroad and drainage.
Be part of a Design Team that produces plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for transportation construction projects.
Duties include preparing engineering reports, performing engineering calculations and analysis and furnishing technical documentation for design projects.
Works tasks generally pertain to planning and design functions for highways, arterials, traffic, and drainage.
Attendance at meetings and interaction with clients should be expected.
Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.
Work with or preferably lead the design team in completion of technical efforts of other team members in the completion of design projects including roadway, traffic, drainage projects and reports.
Assist or preferably lead the project management of projects both technically and financially to meet the clients expectations in completing quality projects on-time and on budget.
Answer any questions during the construction phase of the project.
Participate in business development activities.
Qualifications: What you bring to our firm: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program PE Licensure Experience with MicroStation/InRoads; Open Roads Design.
Experience with Microsoft Office Programs Familiarity with GDOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects.
Experience with GA Municipalities preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: 8-15 years of design experience Experience within the transportation industry Work Environment: The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
